WHEN ANIMALS WERE PEOPLE and THE LAZY BEE
by Tears of Joy Theatre

These folktales from Mexico and Argentina are brought to life in these dynamic new bilingual plays. From the Huichol Indians of Mexico, When Animals is the story of Turtle who is cooking a stew to share with Grandfather Vulture. Squirrel is about to join them when Wolf arrives, hungry for Turtle as well as stew. Wolf soon finds out that without Turtle there is no water to drink.

The Lazy Bee by Horacio Quiroga of Argentina is the story of Haragana. This lazy young bee cannot be bothered with doing her share of the work. When the old bees refuse to let her into the hive she spends the night with a hungry snake.

Tears of Joy Puppet Theatre brings amazing puppet theatre to audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad. The Theatre is recognized nationally for its commitment to excellence and innovation. Four of their productions have received American puppetry's highest honor, the Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry.

The script spun from Mexican and Argentine tales of friendship, dedication and family is spare, sweet, with clever touches of adult-level wordplay. The puppets through whimsical vocal characterizations and deft maneuvering, elicit more delight and sorrow than many human actors. Followspot
