ANANSE!...early in the day
by Wood and Strings Theatre

Ananse the spider, trickster of Ashanti folklore, witnesses the early day when animals and life are new. Sharing comical adventures with Tjapa, the turtle, and dozens of other characters, he leaves his mischievous mark on life, "as the story goes."
Drawing inspiration from the music, masks, costumes, carvings and oral traditions, this musical production vividly illustrates the vibrant splendor and magic of West African art and folklore. The fibre of this experience is the ancestor of African American stories and traditions that have become woven into our American tapestry.

Wood and Strings Theatre uses the captivating and comprehensive nature of art to engage the imagination, create experiences full of meaning, and provide tools to build positive solutions for life's challenges.
