Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters – An African Tale

Adapted for the Stage by Karen Abbott Music & Lyrics by S-Ankh Rasa
Monday, October 3, 2016, 11:00 am and 6:30 pm*, at
the HEB Performance Hall at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

After phenomenally successful tours in the 2008-09 & 2011-12 seasons that visited well over 60 cities, DCT is bringing back its original musical adaptation of this Caldecott Award winning African folktale.

When a great African king desires a wife, only the most perfect maidens in the land are invited to meet him. Mufaro’s pride and joy, his two daughters of very different dispositions, travel a half-day’s journey through a mystical jungle to be presented to the king. Along the way, the two girls encounter a number of extraordinary situations designed to test their kindness, compassion and strength of spirit. Told with authentic African drumming, colorful staging and powerful choreography, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters unmasks the true meaning of beauty and celebrates the mystery and splendor of the African continent.

Recommended for ages five through adult or grades K through six.

And a special thanks to Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium which was our first home in 1982 and continued to be a favorite venue every Season. We were so fortunate to be a part of the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre and Laurie Auditorium for 31 years. They helped make us who we are today.
